High Fructose Corn Syrup almost got a name change – does a new name make it healthier for you? The answer to this question is NO! It was simply another marketing ploy as more and more people wake up to the fact that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is not healthy and are looking to avoid it. The Corn Refiners Association petitioned the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow it to rename its product “corn sugar.” By changing the name to corn sugar they hoped food manufacturers would stop getting rid of the HFCS in their products and they would be able to combat the bad perception HFCS has in the minds of more and more people. However, their petition was denied by the FDA – actually a good thing the FDA has done for us! http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/story/2012-05-30/high-fructose-corn-syrup-not-sugar/55291460/1
